| One of the main objectives for the World Superyacht Awards, is to make this event stand above all others by instituting a fair and transparent judging process. Superyachts are built for their owners, and we reasoned that owners should therefore pass judgement on these vessels rather than those who might have built or designed them. Accordingly, our jury, which is chaired by Roger Lean-Vercoe, editor of the highly respected Superyachts book for 21 years, numbers 10 owners in its ranks, as well as two highly respected professionals - a project manager and a surveyor. All of these will make extraordinary efforts to visit as many of the contending yachts as possible. They will also be presented with a 400-page dossier containing a detailed brief on every yacht in the competition - a dossier that includes a statement from owner, designer and builder together with pictures of the yacht and a specification list.
The Judges meet for a day-long conference where they each award points on six aspects of every yacht, using a marking system that has been designed to be as fair as possible. As one judge said:
'Before I became a World Superyacht Awards judge my own yacht was entered for the competition and it won its class. I was pleased but not overly so, as I thought that the winners of these competitions are usually decided in rather arbitrary fashion. Then I was asked to become a judge for the World Superyacht Awards and I was to find out just how much effort went into deciding the winners of this particular award, as a result I now value my trophy much more highly. The winners of the World Superyacht Awards truly deserve their acclaim'
