The Fondazione Giorgio Cini occupies the buildings of the former Benedictine Monastery on San Giorgio Maggiore Island, on the southern side of Saint Mark’s canal directly opposite Saint Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace. Situated beside the magnificent church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the monastery buildings originate from the end of the 10th century with later additions by Palladio.

Following the suppression of the Benedictine order and the confiscation of its assets by the state during the Napoleonic era the complex fell into a serious decline. This might have been terminal but for the intervention of Count Vittorio Cini, who purchased the complex in 1951 and initiated a complete restoration. It is now acclaimed as one of the prime architectural wonders of this remarkable city. Boat International Group’s World Superyacht Awards Gala Evening will once again take place among these marvellous 16th century cloisters and halls, a truly magical venue that will provide the perfect setting for the Oscars of the Superyacht industry.
